HERMOSA BEACH, CA — An electrical lineman died after falling from a power pole in Hermosa Beach Wednesday night while working as a contractor for Southern California Edison, authorities said.

The worker was found unconscious on the ground below the power pole, ABC7 reported. Officers and paramedics attempted to revive him, but he died at the scene.

"Despite life-saving efforts, paramedics ultimately pronounced the worker deceased at the scene," Dadigan said.

The worker was a contractor with City Light & Power working for Southern California Edison, according to the utility.

"We're heartbroken that a contractor with City Light & Power lost their life while on the job," an SCE spokesperson told ABC7. "Our thoughts are with their family and coworkers."

Neighbors told ABC7 that their power was out while crews were upgrading utility poles in the area.

Exactly what caused the worker's death remained unclear Thursday. ABC7 reported that authorities had not determined whether he may have been electrocuted, suffered a medical emergency or died as a result of the fall.

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner is investigating the death, according to ABC7. The worker had not been publicly identified as of Thursday morning.

Anyone with information about the incident was asked to contact the Hermosa Beach Police Department at 310-318-0360. Anonymous tips can be submitted to L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
