1 Dead, Police Officer Injured In 4-Vehicle Manhattan Beach Crash

MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — One person was killed and several others were injured, including a Manhattan Beach police officer, in a four-vehicle collision Friday night at a busy intersection, authorities said Saturday.

The crash occurred at approximately 10:12 p.m. at Aviation Boulevard and Manhattan Beach Boulevard, according to a Manhattan Beach Police Department news release issued Saturday, Oct. 10.

An on-duty officer witnessed the initial collision before the officer's marked patrol vehicle and another vehicle were also struck, police said. Four vehicles were involved in the crash, including the police vehicle.

Manhattan Beach police and fire personnel responding to the scene found multiple people injured. One person was pronounced dead at the scene, while several others were transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The injured officer was among those hospitalized, although police said the officer's injuries were not life-threatening.

Authorities have not released the identity of the person killed or provided details about the conditions of the other injured people.

The circumstances leading up to the initial collision remain unclear, and police have not disclosed whether speed, impairment or other factors may have contributed.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
