$5,000 Goes to Athlete Who Demonstrates Great Character

El Segundo, CA—10 March 2015—Beach City Baseball Academy (BCBA) is proud to announce its “Sixth Tool” $5,000 scholarship which is open for applications until June 1st. The “Sixth Tool”, a reference to the common baseball term 5-tool player—an athlete that has speed and excels at throwing, fielding, hitting for average and hitting for power—points to what BCBA manager Richard Murad feels is an overlooked element of sport, character.
“Character is a deciding factor when scouts are looking for serious players with the potential to grow, and we want to celebrate those players who show they are great sportsmen,” says Murad.
The requirements for application for the 2015-2016 scholarship are that the applicant must reside within 10 miles of Beach City Baseball Academy’s facility in El Segundo, California and be a graduating 2015 high school senior. Final award is contingent upon Applicant’s acceptance and attendance at an accredited college in the United States (university, four-year, or junior college) and receipt of an offer to participate in that institution’s baseball program. Applicant must submit a letter explaining why they believe they deserve the scholarship and how their grasp of the “Sixth Tool” is reflected in their conduct on and off the field. Applicants mus also secure a letter of recommendation from their high school baseball coach.

Murad says, “The impact of character on a person’s ultimate success in life lasts forever, long after the contribution of speed, power, and agility fade away.”
