PFLAG LGBTQI+ Support: Queer Representation in Media: History & Trends

Event Details

PFLAG Manhattan Beach South Bay, Manhattan Beach, CA

Join us for a presentation about Queer Representation in Media. We will discuss characters and trends throughout history - the good and the bad.

About our Presenter:

Nicholas (Nic) Buchanan (he/him) is a transgender student, advocate, and rising senior at Chadwick School. Passionate about making it easier for young people to grow up openly and authentically, he has spent five years working to strengthen LGBTQ+ visibility and inclusion through Chadwick’s Safe Space group, Pride Day, and social justice programming. His presentation “Queer Media & Trends” examines the history of LGBTQ+ representation in media, the impact of common tropes and stereotypes, and why thoughtful representation matters for queer youth, families, and communities.

Our monthly meeting welcomes the entire spectrum of LGBTQ+ community, friends, families, and allies for rich conversation and supportive community. These meetings are held both IN PERSON and VIA ZOOM.

Meetings are in-person at the allCove Cafe on the 1st floor of Beach Cities Health District's main building, 514 N. Prospect Ave, RB, CA 90277. Look for PFLAG signage to guide you into the building.

To participate via ZOOM, send an e-mail request to rsvp@pflagmanhattanbeach.org
