Chevron Offers To Clean Cars, Property Damaged By Catalyst

The refinery in El Segundo inadvertently released the catalyst material – a dry white powdery substance – into the air last week.

MANHATTAN BEACH, CA – Chevron is offering to professionally clean vehicles and properties that were impacted by catalyst material released at the Chevron El Segundo refinery last Tuesday. The refinery inadvertently released FCC catalyst material (a dry, white powdery residue) into the air, and some may have settled onto vehicles or property in Manhattan Beach, but mainly the El Porto area.

The relatively large particles can cause temporary irritation of the eyes, nose, and mouth while they are airborne, according to the Manhattan Beach Fire Department. Contact Chevron at (310) 615-3747 for cleanup information. Public Health will continue to monitor this incident, along with other regulatory agencies, the press release said. For questions about health effects, please contact Public Health at (213) 738-3220.
