Chevron Work Produces Flames, Noise
Work at the El Segundo refinery lit up the night sky for several hours Monday night. Are you used to this procedure?
Flames and noise from Chevron Refinery in El Segundo are the result of a "controlled release," according to a person who answered the company's 24-hour community hotline Monday night. She explained that work was being done.
The flames were visible before the sun set and still going strong by 9:25 p.m. A loud hissing/spraying sound could be heard at least two blocks from the plant, which borders Manhattan Beach at Rosecrans Avenue.
Said a resident on Pacific Avenue, "I've lived here 20 years and I still haven't gotten used to it [the noise and flames from such a safety release]."
