End Nears for 60 Something Mermaid

Regulars and Mermaid lovers filtered in and out Friday afternoon, exchanging hellos, catching up on the latest news and wondering where they'll go to gather when the oceanfront hangout changes hands. The Hermosa Beach restaurant is one of a dying breed of old-time establishments left in the Beach Cities.

With the property the restaurant/cocktail bar sits on set to close escrow as soon as early next week, word has been getting out that folks better hurry in if they want to visit the place before it conceivably changes.

Word is that the new owners will shut the doors for a few weeks to make minor renovations. Exactly when the doors will close for good under current ownership remains to be seen but this weekend could very well be the Mermaid's last in its current operational mode.
