Girl Scouts Create 'Kid Kits' To Help Traumatized Children

Troop 2205 created the project with proceeds from their cookie sales to help children MBPD officers meet when responding to calls.

MANHATTAN BEACH, CA – The Manhattan Beach Police Department and the Beryl Heights Elementary School Girl Scout Troop 2205 have partnered to bring the “Kid Kit” program to Manhattan Beach in an effort to help children in traumatizing situations.

Kid Kits were created by the troop to bring comfort to children facing stressful situations, the MBPD press release said. Kid Kits will be placed in MBPD patrol vehicles and will be used when police officers respond to calls involving children that may be traumatized by certain incidents, police said. Officers will offer items from the Kid Kits to children of all ages to help soothe and occupy them.

Kid Kit is a project created by Girl Scout Troop 2205 with proceeds from their cookie sales. The troop of kindergartners and first graders used their money to help local charitable organizations but they wanted to create a project of their own, MBPD said.

Kid Kits has enough cases to maintain and hopefully expand it through the years thanks to a generous donation from Pelican Cases in Torrance, the press release said. The troop will continue to restock the toys and other items with money they earn.

"Girl Scout Troop 2205 hopes to encourage other Girl Scout Troops to adopt this program," the press release said. "Troop 2205 will gladly work with and train any Girl Scout Troops interested in developing similar programs in their areas."
