Kid-Focused South Bay Beach Cleanup Planned In Observation Of Earth Day

Registration is open for a family-friendly Earth Day event that's a way to help protect the coastline and to learn about ocean conservation.

SOUTH BAY — Registration has opened for a family-friendly Earth Day event that's a way to help protect the coastline and to learn about ocean conservation.

A kids' beach cleanup event is scheduled for 9 am to noon, rain or shine, at Dockweiler State Beach. The check-in point and supply location is Dockweiler Youth Center – 12505 Vista del Mar, Playa del Rey, CA 90293

Parking passes will be emailed to registered volunteers during the week of the event. Attendees must print a color copy of their pass and display it on their vehicle's dashboard upon arrival.

Guidelines for the event include:

  • A signed beach cleanup waiver form is required for every volunteer.
  • Volunteers ages 12 and younger must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Volunteers under 18 years old must have a waiver signed by a parent or guardian.
  • Gloves, buckets and trash pickers will be provided while supplies last, but volunteers can bring their own reusable cleanup supplies in order to reduce the environmental footprint.
  • Bring a hat, sunscreen, water and a refillable water bottle.
  • Service hour forms will be signed by a beach captain at the end of the cleanup.
