Man Robbed, Shot At South Bay Gas Station After Winning Big At Casino: Police

The suspects followed the victim to the gas station from a casino where the victim won a substantial amount of money, police said.

LOS ANGELES, CA — A man was shot and wounded at a Chevron gas station in the south Los Angeles area Wednesday by one of two suspects who followed him from a Gardena casino after he won a substantial sum of money, police said.

The shooting was reported at 3:55 a.m. near the intersection of Rosecrans and Vermont avenues, said Officer Norma Eisenman of the Los Angeles Police Department's Media Relations Division.

The man, whose name was withheld, was taken to a hospital, where he was listed in stable condition, said Gardena police Lt. Steve Prendergast.

The victim had won "a large sum of money" at the Lucky Lady Casino in the 1000 block of West Rosecrans Avenue, Prendergast said.

"Investigators believe the suspects intentionally used their vehicle to bump the victim's vehicle at Rosecrans and Vermont avenues," Prendergast said. "The victim pulled into the Chevron gas station to exchange information."

The man was then confronted by two suspects who got out of a gray or silver four-door SUV, Prendergast said.

"During the robbery, a struggle between the victim and suspects ensued, and the victim was shot approximately four times," Prendergast said.

The men were described as black, 25-30 years old and 5 feet 11 inches to 6 feet tall. One was armed with a semiautomatic handgun.

Anyone with information on their identities or whereabouts was urged to call Gardena police at (310) 217-9635.
