Manhattan Beach Partially Reopening Polliwog Park

Face coverings are required for people who visit Polliwog Park in Manhattan Beach.

MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — Manhattan Beach City Council decided Wednesday to reopen part of Polliwog Park in Manhattan Beach this upcoming weekend amid the coronavirus pandemic. With a heat wave expected across Los Angeles County, the move will be on a trial basis and the city will require face coverings for everyone at the park.

Starting Saturday at 6:30 a.m., the Manhattan Beach park is open and "will be monitored and evaluated for compliance," city officials announced in a news release. "The park may be closed again in the event the rules are not observed by the public."

The city says the community's health is top priority and people are expected to continue social distancing. Restrooms, playgrounds, fitness equipment, the sports field, dog run and picnic areas remain closed. Manhattan Beach Historical House, Begg Pool and parking lot and the Botanical Garden will not be accessible and remain closed.

Park staff will patrol Polliwog Park to remind visitors that face coverings and social distancing are required. People who violate these rules and don't cover their faces are subject to a fine.
