Mother, Son Found Dead In Hawthorne Hotel Room

The bodies of a retirement-aged woman and her son were found Friday after an apparent murder-suicide, police siad.

HAWTHORNE, CA — The Coroner's Office Saturday said they have yet to release the names of the bodies of a 96-year-old woman and her 61-year-old son who were found in a Hawthorne hotel room in what police said appears to be a murder-suicide.

Their names will be released pending notification of next of kin, according to the coroner's office.

Hotel staff found the bodies around 3 p.m. Saturday and called the Hawthorne Police Department, who arrived to the scene in the 11400 block of Hawthorne Boulevard, near Imperial Highway and the Glenn Anderson (105) Freeway. The officers found the bodies, which both had a gunshot wound, according to Lt. Gilbert Sanchez of the Hawthorne Police Department.

A suicide note at the scene seems to have been written by the son, who may have murdered his mother before taking his own life. It is unclear if the two had made a suicide pact, Sanchez said.
