Newly Renovated Aquarium Reopens In Manhattan Beach

The new and improved aquarium includes 14 oceanic tanks, two fresh water tanks, a wrap-around touch tank and more.

MANHATTAN BEACH, CA – A newly renovated aquarium celebrating its reopening Monday in Manhattan Beach after undergoing $4 million worth of improvements. The new design features 14 oceanic tanks, two fresh water tanks, a wrap-around touch tank and 75 different species, according to the Beach Reporter.

The renovations were made possible thanks to the Harrison Greenburg Foundation, KTLA reported. Harrison, a Manhattan Beach native and the son of Sketchers CEO Michael Greenburg, unexpectedly died in 2015 while in Thailand, the newspaper reported.

But his memory and love for the ocean lives on through the newly renovated Roundhouse Aquarium.

“With its deteriorated tanks and facilities, the interior of the aquarium was in serious disrepair,” Michael Greenberg said in a press release. “Harrison would be proud to have played a part in reviving the place where he had so many wonderful memories.”

The Roundhouse Aquarium was built in 1920, and will continue to offer a free learning experience like it has since 1981. For more information, visit the Roundhouse Aquarium website.
