Kevin Durant Spurns Lakers, Reportedly Will Not Visit the Team During Free Agency

With the Warriors securing an early visit from Durant, could he take his talents to northern California?

San Leonardo, CA — In yet another airball on the heels of a forgettable season, it seems Kevin Durant will not be meeting with the Los Angeles Lakers, despite their confidence in landing a meeting.

With tons of cap space, the Lakers were hoping that they could pitch Durant on coming to L.A. along with another star free agent.

According to ESPN, the Golden State Warriors, San Antonio Spurs, and Durant's current team, the Oklahoma City Thunder, are the first three teams to secure in-person visits. Other teams likely to secure visits are the Miami Heat, Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Clippers, according to Broussard.

In adding insult to injury, the Golden State Warriors have managed to secure a meeting with Durant the day after he meets with the Thunder. This makes them the first new team to have a shot at landing him.

According to SB Nation's Lakers blog:

"It seems improbable Durant will change his mind and give them a meeting, because the Lakers need him a lot more than he needs them at this point in his career. Durant wants to win now, and while the Lakers' promising young core and gobs of cap space might give him a great shot to rack up victories at a rapid clip a few years from now, that future is no sure thing."

If Durant chooses not to re-sign with the Thunder, the Warriors are, needless to say, an appealing destination for a star looking to win now. While the Warriors would have to forgo a contract or two to sign Durant, they are fresh off a historic regular season and have one of the game's biggest stars in Stephen Curry. While LeBron James humbled them in the NBA Finals, were the Warriors to snag Durant, they'd likely envision another run to the Finals next season.

Free agency can't get here quick enough, but for the Lakers it doesn't seem like it will make a difference when it comes to Durant.
