Childhood Obesity Rates Drastically Decrease In Redondo Beach
One in five Redondo Beach elementary school students were considered obese in 2006, according to reports.

REDONDO BEACH, CA – Childhood obesity in the Redondo Beach Unified School District has drastically decreased in the last decade, plunging from 20 percent in 2007 to 6.4 percent in 2017, according to The Beach Reporter. On top of that, test scores have improved, school district Superintendent Steven Keller said.
One in five Redondo Beach elementary school students were considered obese in 2006, which was higher than the national average at the time, the newspaper reported.
Shocked at the findings, officials launched LiveWell Kids, a nutrition and exercise program for elementary school students taught by the schools and parent-volunteers, according to The Beach Reporter.
