South Bay by Jackie Weekend Guide March 5, 2020
The South Bay by Jackie Weekend Guide offers comprehensive coverage of the greater South Bay area.

Last week, I attended the ‘Dine Around LA’ excursion through Riviera Village. Several new restaurants have opened in the Village the last couple of years and this event offered the opportunity to sample many of them along with a couple of established eateries. With the South Bay restaurant boom of the last several years, unless you eat out every night, it’s difficult to keep up with all the options! While I certainly enjoy eating out, I’m by no means a restaurant critic, but you may find my descriptions and accompanying photos helpful when deciding where you want to dine. You can read the write-up at https://www.southbaybyjackie.com/dine-around-riviera-village/. Bon appetit!

Keep the Esplanade Beautiful presents the monthly Esplanade Sweep on March 7 from 9 to 10 a.m. The Esplanade, located on the west side of the street from Knob Hill to Miramar Park, is the crown jewel of Redondo Beach! Each of us that walks, runs, rides, or just sits along the Esplanade enjoying the view have a vested interest and responsibility to help maintain it. While we enjoy the Esplanade in different ways, perhaps with our friends and families, our dogs and bike riding clubs, some debris and wear and tear is inevitable, but it’s not just the city’s responsibility to clean up after us – we are all responsible for our environment. The Keep the Esplanade Beautiful committee is reaching out to the community and asking you to come out every first Saturday for an hour, and join fellow residents in a team effort to “Help Keep the Esplanade Clean”. The committee will provide supplies, direction and hopefully some laughs, as residents work together as role models for others that also use the Esplanade. Volunteers will meet on the Esplanade and Avenue I at 9 a.m. If you plan to attend, please RSVP to Sue at sbbodytender@yahoo.com. For additional information, visit the Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/groups/KeeptheEsplanadeBeautiful/. It’s time to spring forward! Daylight Saving Time starts on Sunday, March 8, so be sure to set your clocks forward one hour this Saturday night! It’s also a good idea to change the batteries in smoke detectors, carbon monoxide alarms, flashlights, and radios stored in your emergency kits. According to the National Fire Protection Association, dead batteries caused one-quarter of the smoke alarm failures.
The Lomita City Council adopted a resolution approving the elimination of all parking permissions on both the North and South sides of Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) in the City of Lomita. PCH is owned and controlled by Caltrans, and their approval was necessary to implement the changes. Although the Caltrans approval process was lengthy, the new parking changes are ready to go into effect. The City has installed “No Parking” signs on PCH and effective March 1, 2020, vehicles parked along PCH in the City of Lomita will be cited by the City’s Parking Enforcement and Lomita Sheriff Deputies. Full enforcement of the “No Parking” restriction, in the form of vehicle towing by Lomita Sheriff, will begin on April 1, 2020. During this time, all other parking violations are still enforceable. These changes along PCH will improve traffic flow on this main City thoroughfare and reduce the potential for collisions as well as provide clarity regarding parking standards. For questions or concerns regarding this change, contact the Public Works Department at 310-325-7110 x 155 or via email at PublicWorks@LomitaCity.com. If your vehicle is towed by Lomita Sheriff, call (310) 539-1661.
