"Officers attempted a PIT maneuver, but the vehicle continued to flee," a police official said.

TORRANCE, CA – A Redondo Beach man accused of leading Torrance police on a chase in a stolen pickup truck remained in custody Monday. Jacob Strunk, 23, was booked on suspicion of vehicle theft, evading and possession of burglary tools, along with an active warrant for vehicle theft, and was expected to make his initial court appearance Tuesday in Torrance, according to Torrance police Sgt. Ronald Harris.

About 10:40 p.m. Saturday, officers attempted to stop a stolen vehicle near Crenshaw Boulevard and 182nd Street, Harris said. They attempted to make a traffic stop, but the driver took off in the 1986 Mazda truck, the sergeant said.

Officers attempted a PIT maneuver, but the driver continued to flee, he said. A short time later, officers were able to box in the vehicle near Yukon Avenue and 182nd Street and took Strunk into custody, Harris said.
According to police, Strunk has a felony conviction and eight misdemeanor convictions for crimes ranging from theft to narcotics possession.
