Surf Picking Up a Bit

Afternoon should be the best time to catch waves.

Good Thursday morning, I'm Surf Junkie Jeff with your Manhattan Beach Patch surf report. Well, it's not pumping, but it's definitely not small. Basically, we're seeing mostly playful size waves on tap today.

We've got some fairly clean conditions early on, with a decent dose of west northwest swell in the water. That recipe is offering some fast semi-wally lines, with a few fun shoulders to snag.

Most spots in Manhattan Beach are hanging in the knee to stomach high range, with the focal points pulling some chest high plus sets.

Taking a look at the tides...at 8:54 this morning it climbed way up to a 5.7 high which had many spots pretty swamped or even shut off mid morning. Your best bet...wait for that tide to turn around and drop a bit. It eventually drains out to a negative 0.6 low at 3:42 this afternoon, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

If you're planning on paddling, throw on at least a 3/2 fullsuit or the 4/3 and possibly the booties, with the water temperature hanging between 56 and 57 degrees. See ya in the water!
