SWAT Team, Tear Gas Used For Barricaded Hawthorne Man

The man chased family members with a knife and barricaded himself inside the bathroom when police arrived, authorities said.

MANHATTAN BEACH, CA – A man was finally arrested when a police SWAT team deployed tear gas after two hours of negotiations, authorities said Monday. The man chased family members with a knife and barricaded himself inside the bathroom of a Hawthorne apartment before his arrest.

The incident began about 3 p.m. Sunday in the 4300 block of 132nd Street, police said. The man was reported violating a restraining order and chasing family members with a knife, police said.

The man barricaded himself into the bathroom after officers arrived, they said. After the tear gas was deployed, the man came out of the bathroom with no additional force or injury about 5:40 p.m., police said.
