2 Minors Arrested For Threats Made To Mira Costa High School Students: Police

MANHATTAN BEACH, CA – Manhattan Beach Police Department was told of possible criminal threats made by two Mira Costa High School students on Tuesday, Oct. 3. MBPD began to investigate the threats, which were directed towards other students, and work towards identifying the students who made the threats.

The following day, investigators identified the students and went to Mira Costa to talk to them. While investigators were at the school, dispatch was made aware of a possible active shooter on campus. Additional MBPD officers responded to help the investigators who were already at school, but it was determined that the threat of an active shooter was based on rumors.

The original investigation continued, and the two students were contacted on campus. Based on the investigation, the 17-year-old students were arrested and transported to MBPD. Both suspects are from Manhattan Beach and are still in custody. After interviewing both suspects, detectives served search warrants at both of their homes – investigators found substantial evidence (although no weapons) at one of the homes, which led them to believe there was a significant credible threat. Investigators believe a dangerous incident
has been averted due to the arrest of these suspects, according to the MBPD press release.
