MANHATTAN BEACH, CA – A "monitoring equipment malfunction" at the Chevron refinery in El Segundo has led to the release of a "visible catalyst plume" that is expected to be mostly contained within the refinery, El Segundo police said. Some residents nearby may find a "dry and white powdery residue" on their vehicles or property, but the material is "a non-hazardous substance and can be removed with soap and water," according to police.
