2014 Fischmann Family Distinguished Lecture, "It's a Scream How Levine Does the Rumba: The Other History of Jews in America"

Josh Kun, an expert on music and the politics of cultural connection, will deliver the Fischmann Family Distinguished Lecture at LMU

Kun will use multimedia to explore the cultural and political engagement among Latinos and Jews in the United States as it played out in the rhythms, lyrics and sounds of popular music. The presentation will feature Jewish artists riffing with Latino music styles and Latino artists noodling with Jewish themes, topics and audiences. It will track the evolution of this musical coupling from early 20th century novelty songs through 1970s salsa classics.

WHEN: Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2014; lecture at 7 p.m.

WHERE: Roski Dining Hall in LMU University Hall at 1 LMU Drive, LA 90045
