Astronaut's Missing Daughter Found Safe

A 12-year-old South Bay girl, who went missing Sunday, has been found safe.

The 12-year-old daughter of a space shuttle astronaut was found safe Monday after being missing from the family’s Manhattan Beach home for about 24 hours, and police said they do not suspect there was any foul play associated with her disappearance.

Gabrielle “Gabby” Olivas left her family’s home in the 500 block of 36th Street about 2:30 p.m. Sunday to take a walk, according to the Manhattan Beach Police Department.

The girl was found around 3 p.m. Monday.

Manhattan Beach police Officer Stephanie Martin told the Daily Breeze the girl was found on a bike near Pacific Coast Highway and Palos Verdes Boulevard and said “there was no foul play involved.” It was unclear, however, where the girl had spent the last 24 hours.

Gabrielle is the daughter of former astronaut John Daniel “Danny” Olivas, who flew two space shuttle missions in 2007 and 2009, the Daily Breeze reported. Olivas now operates OMS117 Mission Assurance in Manhattan Beach, according to the paper.
