Blown Transformer Knocks Power Out For Thousands In Marina Del Rey

Service was restored to all but two customers as of 8:45 p.m., SCE said.

MARINA DEL REY, CA — A power outage affected about 5,000 Southern California Edison customers in the Marina del Rey area Thursday evening.

The outage was reported at 6:33 p.m., according to Jim Hanggi of SCE.

A witness reported about 8 p.m. that traffic was jammed, stop lights and street lights were out and some stores were closed on Lincoln Boulevard near Washington Boulevard, including a Ralphs market.

Service was restored to all but two customers as of 8:45 p.m., Hanggi said.

A sergeant at the sheriff's Marina del Rey Station said a blown transformer was the cause, but Hanggi said the cause was not determined.
