Boats Clear Off Marina Del Rey Beach Following Two Accidents Last Week

MARINA DEL REY, CA -- Multiple people are injured following two boating accidents last week off the coast of Marina del Rey and Venice.

One accident happened about 5 p.m. Friday, when a 20-foot boat with an outboard motor became stranded and overturned on the beach just north of Marina del Rey in Venice.

Four men in their 50s were injured in the Friday night crash; two suffered minor injuries and two were in critical condition, according to Erik Scott of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

An update on the mens' conditions has not yet been made available.

Los Angeles County Fire Department officials Sunday confirmed that the beached vessel had been cleared and towed back to a nearby harbor.

The other boating accident this week took place just two days prior.

Two men in their 60s were rescued Wednesday night after the boat they were in crashed and capsized into a break wall, according to a spokesman with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

County firefighters responded to the incident about 9 p.m. and were able to rescue the 22-foot power boat's passengers, who had been setting lobster traps when the vessel flipped.

Sheriff's Lt. Paul Patterson of the Marina del Rey Station said the boat's passengers were found clinging to the rocks on the break wall and had to be treated for mild hypothermia before being transported to a hospital for further treatment.
