Culver Marina All-Stars Play Ball Thursday

Junior and Senior Little League squads are starting the District 25 Tournament.

Culver Marina Little League teams did not fare well in the younger age groups at this year's District 25 All-Star Tournaments. Local squads for the 9-10, 10-11 and 11-12 divisions have all been eliminated.

However, the two older age groups are just getting started and Culver Marina has already notched its first victory.

The Junior Division team (ages 13-14) edged Beverly Hills 5-4 in its opening round game last Tuesday and faces West Los Angeles at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the semifinals of the winner's bracket at Bill Botts Field in Culver City.

In the Senior Division (ages 15-16), Culver Marina opens against City of Angels at 6 p.m. Thursday at La Cienega Park in Beverly Hills, with the winner advancing to play host Beverly Hills at 1 p.m. Saturday.

In the 9-10 Division, Culver Marina blanked Wrigley 6-0 in its first game on June 25, then lost 17-2 to West Los Angeles on June 29, dropping to the loser's bracket of the double-elimination tournament.

In the 10-11 Division, also played at Ladera, Culver Marina lost its opening game to Santa Monica West 9-3 on June 26, then was knocked out of the tournament with an 8-5 loss to Beverly Hills on June 30.

In the 11-12 Division, Culver Marina lost its first game against Ladera 17-5, dropping to the loser's bracket where it was eliminated with a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Santa Monica East.
