Have you heard about the new website called SashaHelps.com? Let me tell you a little about the history of why this site was developed. Sasha was a beautiful little Maltese puppy. When she was seven months old, she found a home, and she and her new mother became inseparable. When they had to be apart, we were not sure whose separation anxiety was worse!

They took long walks, and met more people and animals than you could imagine. Both of their social circles expanded exponentially. They attended a lot of birthday parties, yappy hours, and travelled all over the place with their new friends. Over the years, Sasha would jump into her travel bag, staying still, and attending many happy and sad events. Nobody knew she was hiding in the bag.

Finally she reached a point when she knew it was time to give back to the community. When she was three, she and her mother trained to work as a certified therapy dog team at the hospital. They saw many very sick people. The people were so happy to see Sasha when she went in to visit them. Some played with her, some petted her, and some just wanted to sit with her. Once she visited a woman who had been unresponsive for a couple days. Her family had gathered around her bed, and all had tears in their eyes. They said she loved dogs, and wanted Sasha to come and sit with her for a few minutes. Everyone watched as Sasha’s mom took her hand, and slowly stroked it over Sasha’s hair. After a few minutes, the woman opened her eyes and gave Sasha a small smile. Then everyone noticed that the woman mouthed the words ‘thank you’. Her family’s tears of joy were streaming down their cheeks. It was a happy moment for everyone.

Sasha lived this life of socializing and volunteering for nine years, until she started having some health problems. In May of 2014, she had a severe allergic reaction, and the pain was unbearable. Sasha and her mom were both in agony. They held tight to each other, feeling each other’s fear, but each tried to stay relaxed to try to keep each other calm. They knew how to keep each other calm for twelve years – but now it was very difficult. Finally, it was better that Sasha left this earth, rather than continue living life in such pain.

Because Sasha spent so much time making everyone happy, her mom has come up with another way to help make the world a little better. Hopefully raising money and awareness to animal charities will keep Sasha’s memory alive. We all need to help make this world a better place.

In Sasha’s short life, she gave back to the community as often as she could. We hope we can continue helping various charities in Sasha’s name forever.
