Angelenos are about to take some big steps to combat one of the most important health crises facing America. Many people whose lives have been affected in some way by obesity will participate in the Los Angeles Walk from Obesity which will take place on Saturday, September 24 at Burton Chace Park in Marina Del Rey. The event will be presented by L.A. Bariatrics at Marina Del Rey Hospital and its Medical Director and bariatric surgeon Dr. Jeremy Korman.
The Los Angeles Walk From Obesity's nonprofit organizers aim to raise funds for obesity research and to spread awareness of the consequences of obesity, a condition
affecting 93 million Americans. They also want to get the word out that bariatric surgery, a safe and effective method of treating morbid obesity, is an effective weapon in our society's fight for fitness. The L.A. event's organizers hope to raise $50,000 in pledges for these causes.
“The team at L.A. Bariatrics is thrilled to be the sponsor of the Los Angeles Walk From Obesity,” said Dr. Korman. “We appreciate the chance to support the local community, to
meet with our former patients and to raise awareness of weight loss surgery as a safe and effective solution to morbid obesity.”

The event is one of many that will take place in August and September. Across the country, people whose lives have been affected by obesity will gather to participate in the Walk From Obesity.
The Walk From Obesity was established by the
charitable wing of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, the ASMBS Foundation, along with the Obesity Action Coalition. Since its inception, the event has raised more than $4 million and has grown into the largest
gathering of people affected by obesity in the United States.

“Today, more than 30 percent of California residents are classified as obese and are medically qualified for bariatric
surgery,” said Dr. Korman. “Events like the Walk From Obesity are needed to help keep the negative effects of obesity— and its possible solutions — in the public dialogue.”
On-site registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. and cost $35 per person, with children under 12 able to participate for free. Each participant will receive an event T-shirt. Before the event, registration will be open online for $25 per person.
