Joan Del Monte, a Venice resident, has written for national newspapers and lectured at various colleges regarding her knowledge of antiques, and in the 1960s had a Flea Market Antique Store on the old West Washington (known now as Abbot Kinney Blvd.). She has co-written one book and penned three mysteries: Plonk Goes The Weasel, Death Had A Yellow Thumb, and Mud Blood, Murder in the Sacramento Delta, which received a national book award finalist nomination. All three are set in various California locations including Venice. She holds BS and MA degrees. She is a co-founder of the Friends of Venice Library and Venice Historical Society. She taught a writing course at Santa Monica College: A Guide to the Pitfalls from Someone Who Has Fallen into Most of Them.
