LAX Flight Delays, Cancellations Blamed on Rain Storm

Airport officials urged passengers to contact airlines for updated flight information.

LOS ANGELES, CA - A number of flight delays and cancellations were being reported Thursday at Los Angeles International Airport, and travelers were urged to contact their airlines for the latest information.

Although airport operations were near-normal for such a busy travel day, some departure delays Thursday morning were related to the stormy weather, which caused flights to take off to the east instead of to the west because of more favorable wind conditions, said LAX spokeswoman Mary Grady.

On Wednesday night, a number of delays were due in part to a "capacity issue" related to a larger number of flights that were scheduled compared with a normal day, Grady said.
