Local Runners Complete Boston Marathon

Kenyan Geoffrey Mutai sets a new record and nine area residents finish the 26.2-mile race.

History was made Monday morning when Kenya's  won the 115th  in two hours, three minutes and two seconds--faster than anyone had ever run the 26.2-mile distance.

Despite shattering the previous best time of 2:03:59 set in 2008 by Ethiopian Haile Gebrselassie in Berlin, Mutai's effort is not officially a world record because the course is not considered record-eligible by the. 

Monday's field consisted of approximately 27,000 runners. Also completing the famous course were eight runners from Playa del Rey and one from Marina del Rey. The local residents are listed below in order of finish, along with their ages and official times:

Frank Tai, male, age 56, 3:05:25 (2,211 overall, 20 in division), 7:05 pace

Elias Habtemariam, male, age 46, 3:35:20 (9,226 overall, 1,297 in division), 8:13 pace

Elizabeth Johnson, female, age 27, 3:43:03 (11,379 overall, 2,252 in division), 8:31 pace

Andrea Torng, female, age 24, 3:59:45 (16,133 overall, 3,523 in division), 9:09 pace

Brian F. Harris, male, age 65, 4:21:24 (19,589 overall, 104 in division), 9:59 pace

Sharon Yamato, female, age 61, 4:23:17 (19,828 overall, 63 in division), 10:03 pace

Kurt Nam, male, age 55, 4:28:51 (20,453 overall, 955 in division), 10:16 pace
