Major Environmental Groups Endorse Ballona Tidal Restoration

Heal the Bay, Friends of Ballona Wetlands, Surfrider Foundation and Los Angeles Waterkeeper All Endorse Comprehensive Restoration at Ballona

Los Angeles’ premier environmental organizations are endorsing the state’s Draft Environmental Impact Report for the Ballona Wetlands at a public meeting on Wednesday, November 8 at 6:00 PM at Burton Chace Park in Marina Del Rey. The Coalition urges citizens to turn out and show their support to Bring Back Ballona.

The Ballona Wetlands have been buried by fill dirt and cut off from ocean tides since the mid 1900s. Taxpayers purchased surplus lands for $140 million nearly two decades ago and now own nearly 700 acres of open space that was historically tidal wetland, but is now weed-infested fill dirt, littered with trash, stolen bike chop shops and Ballona Creek’s manmade concrete channel.

The state plan would dig out the weedy fill dirt, concrete and trash and replace it with green and blue water wetlands, native upland vegetation, trails and bike paths. If this sounds good to you, show up at the meeting and say “Bring Back Ballona.”
