Man Killed, Woman Injured in Crossing Street Playa del Rey

The pedestrians were struck crossing Vista Del Mar. Police are still investigating the accident and no motorists were arrested or cited.

PLAYA DEL REY, CA - A man was killed and a woman seriously injured early Thursday morning when a vehicle hit them in Playa del Rey, authorities said.

The crash outside 11400 S. Vista Del Mar, just south of Imperial Highway, took place about 12:15 a.m., according to Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman Margaret Stewart.

A young man died at the scene and another pedestrian, a 32-year-old woman, was taken to a hospital with serious injuries, Stewart said.

The man was later identified as 21-year-old Michael Lockridge, said Lt. Dave Smith of the coroner's office. Where he lived was not immediately reported.

Lockridge and the woman were struck by a vehicle headed north on Vista Del Mar. Lockridge was then struck by a southbound vehicle, according to Sgt. Lonnie Tiano of the Los Angeles Police Department's West Traffic Division.

"I don't know if they were crossing in a crosswalk," Tiano said, adding that no motorist was cited or arrested.
