65-95 firefighters from several stations including Station 63 responded to put out the fire Saturday near the Marina Del Rey Garden Center. The blaze that put up spectacular plumes of smoke actually burned less than 3 acres according to Battalion Chief Armando Hogan and they had it under control shortly after 5pm. Crews had it completely knocked down by 7pm. Waterdropping helicopters helped extinguish the blaze. The cause of the blaze is still under investigation. It burned an area from Mindanao to Culver Blvd and between the east and west 90 freeway.
