Marina Del Rey Man Rescued On Mount Baldy
The man was trapped in Goode Canyon Sunday before he was rescued by the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Office aviation team.

MARINA DEL REY, CA – A man from Marina del Rey was rescued from a canyon on Mount Baldy Sunday by the San Bernardino County sheriff’s aviation team, according to a press release. Michael Patchen, 48, hiked up Falls Road about 9 a.m. before hiking Baldy Notch and then proceeded to Mount Baldy Summit by taking the Devil’s Backbone trail, reaching the summit about noon, according to a San Bernadino County Sheriff’s press release.
Patchen sent a distress signal via a Garmin inReach, stating that he was sliding down the side of the mountain and needed help, the press release said. He was located at around the 8,500 foot level in very steep inaccessible terrain, so the crew requested the Sheriff's rescue helicopter to perform a hoist rescue.
Patchen was placed into a rescue harness, the statement said, and was hoisted up to the helicopter and flown to waiting ground units. He sustained only superficial injuries.
