New Grants at Loyola Marymount University Support Diversity

The funds are part of the school's "Inclusive Excellence Grants Program."

Loyola Marymount University just awarded new grants on campus that will help assist research programs centered around diversity.

The grants, which total $14,000, are part of the university's "Inclusive Excellence Grants Program," according to Peter Warren, LMU's assistant director of communications.

That program helps fund research that helps support diversity and interculturalism on LMU's campus.

Three grants, worth $3,000 each, were given for work involving diversity recruitment and retention. The grant recipients include, La’ Tonya Rease Miles, director of the Academic Resource Center and Melvin Robert, director of LMU's Office of Black Student Services.

Jamie Hazlitt, an outreach librarian, and Raymundo Andrade, a library cataloging assistant, will also share an award, according to Warren.

Leslie Ponciano, LMU's assistant professor and director of Early Childhood Education at the School of Education, received a $5,000 grant, Warren said.
