One Person Killed and Another Wounded in Shooting

One person was shot dead and another wounded in a shooting at the Mar Vista Gardens housing project, between Marina Del Rey and Culver City, a police sergeant said Sunday.

The fatal shooting victim was later identified as Calvin Johnson, 50, of Paramount, said Coroner’s Investigator Betsy Magdaleno.

Los Angeles police got multiple calls of gunshots, and officers were dispatched to the 4800 block of Marionwood Drive at 11:05 p.m. Saturday. They discovered two victims, both males, with gunshot wounds, said a watch commander at the Los Angeles Police Department’s Pacific station.

Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene and paramedics rushed the other victim to an area hospital, where he was listed in stable condition, she said. The watch commander said homicide detectives had yet to establish a motive for the shooting.
