Pictures of a Peaceful Morning on the Ballona Freshwater Marsh

In the calm before our first winter storm, water birds are pairing up for the spring.

It was cool and cloudy this morning, in advance of what the weather lady said would be our first major storm of the season - and first since April! No sooner had we walked the two blocks from Playa Vista to the Ballona Freshwater Marsh when the sun came out a-blazing, making for a beautiful amateur birding walk.

A Great Egret peers at us through the willows.

Coots, Northern Shovelers and Gadwalls were grazing in the marsh.

There are Hooded Mergansers and Mallards out there, but this is the best a phone camera will do.

A nice lady pointed out a Green Heron to us. I didn't get a photo.

It sure feels good to get out of the house!
