Updated: Police Investigate Threat at LAX

Updated at 9:19 p.m.: AAn EVA Air flight with more than 300 passengers landed safely at Los Angeles International Airport this afternoon after a telephonic threat was made, but no explosives were found.

Flight 12 from Taipei to Los Angeles landed about 3:30 p.m. and the plane was immediately taken to a remote location to be searched, but details were sketchy.

The LAPD’s bomb squad was sent to the scene. Dogs were used to inspect the passengers and their luggage, Laura Eimiller of the FBI said. The FBI and other federal security officials were also on hand.

The FBI issued a statement saying: “Bureau and airport officials are investigating a telephonic threat to an aircraft incoming to LAX. All threats, regardless of known credibility, are taken seriously.”

Passengers, who had already endured a 14-hour flight, were allowed to get off the plane by 5:30 p.m. They were taken to Tom Bradley International Terminal.

No threat was found on either the aircraft or its passengers. Both the plane and passengers were cleared, Eimiller said shortly after 7 p.m.

The investigation to determine the individuals or group responsible for the threats would continue, Eimiller said.

Eimiller denied reports that any passenger had been detained in the probe.
