San Diego Man Convicted Of Texas Teen's Murder In Marina Del Rey

MARINA DEL REY, CA — A San Diego County man was convicted Thursday of gunning down a 17-year-old girl in the parking lot of a Marina del Rey-area shopping center last year.

The Los Angeles Superior Court jury deliberated about a day and a half before finding Cameron Anthony Frazier, 23, of Vista, guilty of first-degree murder for the Jan. 6, 2016, killing of Kristine Carman, according to Deputy District Attorney Eugene Hanrahan.

Jurors also found true the special circumstance of murder during the commission of an attempted robbery, along with an allegation that Frazier used a gun. Jurors deadlocked on allegations that Frazier intentionally discharged a firearm.

Frazier also was found guilty of two counts of attempted robbery involving the victim's sister and the boyfriend of the victim's sister, along with one count of assault with a firearm.

The boyfriend of the murder victim's sister had arranged to meet someone in the parking lot to sell medical marijuana, the prosecutor said.

The man grew suspicious about Frazier because he didn't match the photo from the driver's license that had been supplied, and the two struggled after Frazier demanded two pounds of marijuana buds inside the vehicle, where Carman and her sister were waiting, Hanrahan said.

Frazier fired one shot into the car and another at the would-be marijuana seller as that man ran toward a restaurant, the prosecutor said.

Carman — who was visiting from Houston — was struck just below her left eye, Hanrahan said.

Frazier was arrested 12 days later in connection with the killing in the parking lot of the Villa Marina Marketplace.

The District Attorney's Office opted earlier not to seek the death penalty against Frazier, who is facing life in prison without the possibility of parole. He is set to be sentenced July 26.
