Spectrum News 1 earned 12 nominations in its first full year of eligibility for the awards.

Los Angeles, CA – The Television Academy announced the nominations for the 72nd Los Angeles Area Emmy® Awards and Spectrum News 1 (12), Spectrum SportsNet LA (5) and Spectrum SportsNet (4) were awarded a combined total of 21 Los Angeles Emmy® Awards nominations.

In its first full year of eligibility for the Emmys, Spectrum News 1 more than tripled the number of nominations from last year with 12 Emmy® nominations. Launched in November 2018, Spectrum News 1 earned three Los Angeles Area Emmy® Awards nominations last year. Giselle Fernandez presented at the awards ceremony and her primetime show, “LA Stories with Giselle Fernandez,” earned the first Emmy® for Spectrum News 1.

The Los Angeles Area Emmy® Awards honor locally produced programs in the categories of Crime and Social Issues, Culture and History, Arts, Human Interest, Sports, Environment, and Live and Breaking News Coverage.

Spectrum News 1 received 12 Emmy® nominations in the categories of Culture/History, Informational Series (Remote), Information Series (In-studio), Live Special Events, Information Segment, Business/ Consumer News Story, Environment News Story and Sports News Story.

Spectrum SportsNet LA received five Emmy® nominations in the categories of Sports Series – Programming (Post-Produced), Sports Series – Programming (Live Broadcast), Sports Feature, Sports Tease and Short Promo – Sports. Spectrum SportsNet received four Emmy® nominations in the categories of Sports Special, Sports Series – Programming (Post-Produced), Sports Series – Programming (Live Broadcast) and Sports Feature.
