St. Bernard Football on Verge of Ranking

The Vikings are just outside the Top 10 in the Northwest Division after a win.

The St. Bernard High varsity football team did more than just turn heads with its 28-21 win at El Segungo last Friday, it also caught the attention of the CIF Southern Section voting committee, which put the Vikings on the "others" list in the Northwest Division, just outside the Top 10.

Lompoc of the Los Padres League won its Zero Week game to remain atop the poll. South Torrance (Pioneer League) and Santa Ynez (Los Padress) held at Nos. 2 and 3 despite not playing and Lompoc Cabrillo (Los Padres) is at No. 4 after winning its opener. Carpinteria (Tri-Valley), which has yet to play, is at No. 5. Bishop Montgomery (Del Rey), North Torrance (Pioneer) and Templeton (Los Padres) are in the next three positions after all won their openers last week. Rounding out the Top 10 are Nordhoff (Tri-Valley) and La Salle (Del Rey), which lost its opener.

Joining the Vikings on the "others" list are Del Rey League rival Cantwell Sacred Heart along with Compton Centennial, Verbum Dei, Fillmore, Morro Bay, Santa Paula and Oak Park.
