St. Bernard Now No. 2 in Football Poll

After improving to 6-0 last Friday, the football team moved up one position from third to second in this week's , which were released Monday.

The Vikings were unranked at the beginning of the season under new coach Larry Muno but have climbed steadily with each passing victory. They moved up two spots, from fifth to third, last week and moved to No. 2 this week after a 49-17 drubbing of rival Pasadena La Salle. St. Bernard traded places with previously unbeaten Compton Centennial, which fell to No. 3 after being routed 41-16 by Santa Monica.

Lompoc remained No. 1 after crushing Santa Maria 74-7. Cantwell-Sacred Heart, which had lost to St. Bernard the previous week moved off the "others under consideration" list. Don Bosco Tech is sixth in the Northwest Division poll and Del Rey League rival Verbum Dei stayed on the "others under consideration" list, just outside the Top 10.

St. Bernard and Don Bosco Tech meet Friday in Rosemead for a Del Rey League showdown. The Vikings have doubled their win total from last year when they finished 3-7 and missed the playoffs.
