St. Bernard Volleyball Loses League Match

The host Vikings fall in four sets to rival St. Monica but remain tied for second.

Revenge was the goal Thursday night for the St. Bernard High boys volleyball team.

The Vikings had lost to St. Monica in four sets in the first round of Camino Real League play on March 29 and they wanted to return the favor in the rematch on their home court.

Unfortunately, St. Bernard was unable to sustain its momentum after winning the second set and fell in four, 25-18, 25-27, 25-10, 25-23, to drop into a second-place tie with Mary Star of the Sea.

The Vikings (4-6 overall, 3-3 in league) had won their three previous matches in sweeps and carried momentum into their second meeting against St. Monica, the ninth-ranked team in the Southern Section Division 5 poll.

St. Bernard was unable to stop Mariners senior outside hitter and co-captain Tanner Peach, who had 15 kills and six blocks. Chaz Moynaugh added eight kills, six aces, three blocks and seven digs for St. Monica (9-5-2, 6-0), which solidified its grip on first place.
