St. Bernard Volleyball Makes CIF Playoffs

The Vikings will travel to fourth-seeded Providence in the first round Tuesday.

The CIF Southern Section announced its boys volleyball playoff pairings on Sunday and St. Bernard has qualified in the Division 5 bracket.

The Vikings, who finished second in the Camino Real League, drew a tough first-round opponent in No. 4-seeded Providence, the Liberty League runner-up. The teams will play Tuesday at 7 p.m., with the winner advancing to Thursday's second round against San Gorgonio or Downey Calvary Chapel. 

Camino Real League champion St. Monica hosts a wildcard winner in Tuesday's first round. Mary Star of the Sea, the third place team from the Camino Real League, was awarded a wildcard and plays Pilibos Monday for a spot in the main draw.

Santa Fe League champion Vistamar is the No. 1 seed, followed by Chadwick and Viewpoint. Being on opposite halves of the 32-team draw, St. Bernard and St. Monica would not meet until the finals.

Quarterfinal matches in all divisions are Saturday, semifinals are May 17 and championships are Saturday, May 21, at Cypress College.
