Vikings Play in Beverly Hills Tournament Saturday
St. Bernard is among 16 high schools in the seven-on-seven summer passing competition.

Beverly Hills High School will host its annual seven-on-seven passing tournament Saturday and St. Bernard is one of 16 teams in the one-day football competition.
Teams will be divided into four pools of four teams each. Pool play begins at 8:30 a.m. and the top two teams in each pool advance to the single-elimination playoff round in the afternoon.
Games are played on shortened fields with no pads and last 40 minutes.

St. Bernard is in Pool D with Selma (from Fresno County), host Beverly Hills and Fremont. The Vikings' first game is at 8:30 a.m. versus Fremont on Field 4. They follow with games against Beverly Hills at 9:10 a.m. on Field 4 and Selma at 10:40 a.m. on Field 2.
The Normans reached the semifinals last year along with Ocean League rival Culver City, which is not in this year's field because it is playing in the Bonita Tournament in La Verne the same day.

Pool A consists of Mira Costa, Atascadero, El Monte and Hawthorne; Pool B consists of Dorsey, Santa Ynez, University and Lynwood; and Pool C consists of Notre Dame, Cathedral, West Torrance and View Park.
Highland of Palmdale won last year's 19-team BHHS tournament, beating West Torrance in the championship game.
Dual-threat quarterback Christian Smith is back after throwing for 2,171 yards and 24 touchdowns to lead the Del Rey League last season but St. Bernard finished sixth out of seven teams in the standings and lost their last four games under former coach Greg Dixon, who has been succeeded by Larry Muno.
St. Bernard traveled to Sherman Oaks on May 28 to play a seven-on-seven tournament at Notre Dame, where Muno's son J.J. is a junior linebacker.
