Woman Distracted By Phone Crashes Into Pedestrians In Del Rey

The pedestrians were crossing legally in a crosswalk, police said.

DEL REY, CA -- Three people were hurt when a woman using her cellphone while driving struck them in a Del Rey crosswalk, authorities said Monday.

It happened about 8:15 p.m. Sunday at 13455 W. Maxella Ave., Sgt. Scotty Stevens of the Los Angeles Police Department said.

The three pedestrians were "crossing legally in the crosswalk," Stevens said.

They were taken to hospitals with broken bones but no critical injuries, he said. Their ages and genders were not available.

The driver stopped at the scene and assisted police, Stevens said.

Alcohol was not believed a factor.
