MARINA DEL REY, CA – A young gray whale was spotted swimming in the main channel of Marina del Rey Monday, lifeguards reported. The whale was caught on video spouting water from its blowhole before descending back down into the ocean.
The National Marine Fishery Service told CBS they're keeping an eye on the marine mammal, and boaters were warned to navigate the area with caution.
The whales are in the midst of their annual spring migration from Baja California to Alaska, Fox 11 reported.

But the young whale wasn't the only one of its kind found along the Los Angeles County coast Monday night. A 15 ft. whale carcass was also found floating offshore, about 500 yards off the coast of Hermosa Beach. Marine officials were keeping an eye on the location of the carcass last night, but due to thick fog Tuesday morning, they were unable to locate the whale.
Yesterday afternoon a 15' gray whale carcass was located approximately 1/4 mile offshore the Hermosa Beach Area. Due to heavy fog this morning, the current whereabouts of the carcass are unknown, however both @NOAAFish_WCRO and @lacdbh have been notified of its existence. pic.twitter.com/hc4afDLrFM
