After several months of delays due mostly to the elevator installation, the Martinez Library will celebrate its grand reopening on Aug. 20 at 10 a.m.
The event will feature a ribbon cutting, cake and punch, and daylong activities for children in the newly-constructed downstairs area. Friends of the Library will hold a book sale, and extra staff will be on hand to help people use the new self-check out machine.
The library renovation used money from a bond measure that voters approved in 2008. The improvements include an elevator to the downstairs children’s area, remodeled bathrooms, a backyard garden, skylights and shelves.
The interim library at 401 Ferry St. will close on Saturday. Patrons with books to return should use the drop box or return books to the new library when it reopens Aug. 20.
