📰 News we're reading

• East Bay residents raise concerns about refinery safety records at town hall (nbcbayarea.com) — Martinez residents just saw refinery safety take center stage at a packed town hall, where neighbors pressed officials about repeated violations, fires, and flaring at Martinez Refining Company and the nearby Marathon Martinez Renewable Facility. With hundreds of reported violations, a multimillion-dollar penalty, and a new public incident-tracking dashboard, the discussion focused on health protections, worker safety, and balancing jobs with community well-being.

• Suspect in Antioch shooting charged with attempted murder (thepress.net) — A suspect in a 2023 Antioch shooting has been arrested and is now being held at the Martinez Detention Facility on nearly $1 million bail. Investigators say surveillance video, physical evidence, and witness statements tied him to a barrage of gunfire that injured no one but caused a crash, leading to attempted murder and related firearm charges.
